The plants have strongly calcified, dichotomous, cylindrical branches that are pink in color with obtuse apices. This seaweed is found on rocks in subtidal zones along moderately wave exposed shorelines.
This species has a feather-like appearance, composed of erect main axes that are hooked in one direction at the end with branchlets extending in the same direction. The plants grow on rocks and gravel in mid to lower intertidal zones along shorelines with moderate wave activity.
