The maggots referred to are the myiasis-causing larvae of the human botfly ( " Dermatobia hominis " ).
"Dermatobia " fly eggs have been shown to be subcutaneous layers, and after approximately eight weeks, they drop out to pupate for at least a week, typically in the soil.
The human botfly " Dermatobia hominis " attaches its eggs to the underside of a mosquito, and when the mosquito takes a blood meal from a human or an animal, the body heat of the mammalian host induces hatching of larvae.
In Paraguay the species is called " Ura " and the same name is applied to the larva of the human botfly ( " Dermatobia hominis " ), in a confusing relation of both species, believing the former is the adult of the latter.
