Visser was not only a dedicated collector of ethnographica but also an avid photographer.
In 1886 the Museum opened in a new building, which also contained European ethnographica, although no collections explicitly from Germany.
During his residence in Africa he collected a plenitude of ethnographica for the ethnographical museums in Berlin, Leipzig, and Stuttgart.
Its many rooms feature important collections of weapons, hunting trophies, souvenirs of the Murray clan, ethnographica, paintings, furniture, and needlework collected by the Murray family over many generations.
