The far south of Raglan went to Kawhia County when it was formed, but in 1952, the Local Government Commission put Makomako back in Raglan.
Upon his death, his people, known as " Ngti Te Wehi ", moved South West of Aotea Harbour, some stayed at Makomako, Te Papatapu and Motakotako.
The first Poukai was held at Raoraokauere then in the early 1800s by Motakotako Marae Te Ohaaki M Mahuta which was given to Makomako Te Tihi M Moerangi but at that time Makomako, Te Tihi M Moerangi was called Kaokao in 1896 and finally placed the Poukai with Okapu Marae in 1897 making the Poukai at Okapu Marae 119 years old.

The road access to the windfarm largely followed the paper road, which was started around 1900 ( a local historian wrote that a store ledger started at Te Mata in 1896 includes at least 11 workers on the road ) and seemingly abandoned a few years later, though Bob Vernon also wrote, " about 1919 the Public Works Department cut a six-foot track through solid bush, from the south-eastern end of the plateau [ where it joins this paper road ] to the head of the Makomako valley ".
