"Menyanthes trifoliata " occurs in fens and bogs in Asia, Europe, and North America.
Specific species include Belamcanda chinensis, Caltha palustris var . nipponica, Carex podogyna, Lysichiton camtschatcense, Menyanthes trifoliata, Myrica gale var . tomentosa, Potamogeton distinctus, and Primula japonica.
This fen is also one of the few Canadian locations for the Bogbean Buckmoth a species of silk moth that feeds on another typical fen plant, Bogbean " ( Menyanthes trifoliata ) " ( see photo at lower right ).
In 1827 he won the Medico-Botanical Society s gold medal for his report on the medical properties of Ipecacuanha with the silver medal going to John Peter Yosy ( presumably his brother-in-law ) for his paper on Menyanthes Trifiliata ( Buckbean ).
The genera " Menyanthes " and " Nephrophyllidium " grow only in the northern hemisphere, while " Liparophyllum " and " Villarsia " occur only in the southern hemisphere . " Nymphoides " species have a cosmopolitan distribution.
