orbilius การใช้
ประโยค
- Latin grammar developed by following Greek models from the 1st century BC, due to the work of authors such as Orbilius Pupillus, Remmius Palaemon, Marcus Valerius Probus, Verrius Flaccus, and Aemilius Asper.
- Horace ( " Epistles ", ii ) criticizes his old schoolmaster and describes him as " plagosus " ( a flogger ), and Orbilius has become proverbial as a disciplinarian pedagogue.
- "' Lucius Orbilius Pupillus "'( 114 BC c . 14 BC ) was a Latin grammarian of the 1st century BC, who taught a school, first at Benevento and then at Rome, where the poet Horace was one of his pupils.
- Beneventum indeed seems to have been a place of much literary cultivation; it was the birthplace of Orbilius the grammarian, who long continued to teach in his native city before he removed to Rome, and was honored with a statue by his fellow-townsmen; while existing inscriptions record similar honors paid to another grammarian, Rutilius Aelianus, as well as to orators and poets, apparently only of local celebrity.
- Famous " grammatici " include Lucius Orbilius Pupillus, who still serves as the quintessential pedagogue that isn t afraid to flog or whip his students to drive a point home, and the freedman Marcus Verrius Flaccus, who gained imperial patronage and a widespread tutelage due to his novel practice of pitting students of similar age and ability against each other and rewarding the winner with a prize, usually an old book of some rarity.
