The upper face has a medial division and the antennae are porrect.
Lip trilobed, long-spurred with porrect sidelobes.
The second segment of the palpus erect, the third porrect ( stretched forward ).
Initially they can often be distinguished by the mucro, curved in " H . tephrosperma " and usually porrect in " H . leucoptera " . " H . tephrosperma " also has a shorter floral rachis with rust-coloured hairs, and the pedicel and perianth are densely appressed-pubescent, while " H . leucoptera " has a longer floral rachis.
Other less noticeable differences include : " A . epidendroides " has broad transverse markings on the lateral sepals, the column with an elliptic depression below the stigma and the apical half of the labellum is porrect while " A . principissa " has narrow longitudinal stripes on the lateral sepals, the column with a narrow linear groove below the stigma and the apical half of the labellum is not porrect.
