A cord which is fitted with non-rewireable ( usually moulded ) connectors at both ends is termed a " cord set ".
In 1927 Scherbius bought Koch's patents, and in 1928 they added a " plugboard ", essentially a non-rotating manually rewireable fourth rotor, on the front of the machine.
The fourth version, first observed on 2 January 1944, had a rewireable reflector, called " Umkehrwalze D ", allowing the Enigma operator to alter the connections as part of the key settings.
Rewireable plugs must be designed so that they can be wired in a manner which prevents strain to the earth connection before the line and / or neutral connection in the event of failure of the cord anchorage.
Currently, appliances in many countries are sold with non-rewireable CEE 7 / 7 plugs attached, enabling use in all countries whose socket standards are based on either CEE 7 / 3 or CEE 7 / 5.
