All that remains is the motte, an artificial hill about high, and a standing stone measuring with a Latin cross inscribed in it, with a suppedaneum ( foot-rest at the base ).
On the north side is a small square chamber probably built to contain the famous relic of the church, the dust from the suppedaneum of the Cross, when it was sawn in pieces by the order of St Helena.
A foot-rest ( " suppedaneum " ) attached to the cross, perhaps for the purpose of taking the person's weight off the wrists, is sometimes included in representations of the crucifixion of Jesus, but is not discussed in ancient sources.
