Members of Cobitidae common across Eurasia and parts of North Africa.
Some Cobitidae have been introduced to foreign lands, where they may pose problems to local wildlife as invasive species.
Little is known about the breeding habits of the members of this family cobitidae and only a few species have been bred in captivity to date.
In a number of systematic schemes, though, they were placed in the Balitoridae ( or Balitorinae, when these were included in the Cobitidae ).
The Botiids are more robust than most of their relatives in Cobitidae and tend to have a more or less arched back, yielding an altogether more fusiform shape.
