Finlay became notable as a poet, when reducing the monostich form to one word with his concrete poems in the nineteen sixties.
McBryde's 2005 book'Slivers'consists entirely of Monostich style poems that attempt to relate a whole poem in one line.
A monostich could be also titled; due to the brevity of the form, the title is invariably as important a part of the poem as the verse itself:
Some of Ammons's poems are very short, one or two lines only, a form known as monostich ( effectively, including the title, a kind of couplet ), while others ( for example, the book-length poems " Sphere " and " Tape for the Turn of the Year " ) are hundreds of lines long, and sometimes composed on adding-machine tape or other continuous strips of paper.
