Ribotyping : This method involves amplification of a known sequence cut by restriction enzymes, and compares restriction fragments of amplified DNA from different strains.
Several molecular typing schemes have been proposed to determine the relatedness of pathogens such as pulsed-field gel electrophoresis ( PFGE ), ribotyping, and PCR-based fingerprinting.
Conceptually, ribotyping is similar to probing restriction fragments of chromosomal DNA with cloned probes ( randomly cloned probes or probes derived from a specific coding sequence such as that of a virulence factor ).
