• Only one of the family, the Black-billed cuckoo " Coccyzus erythropthalmus " ( Wilson ), is known to be a brood parasite.
• Although the scientific name is " minor " ( meaning " small " ), this species is on average the largest of North America's three " Coccyzus " cuckoos.
• Northern species such as yellow-billed and black-billed cuckoos are strong Central or South America, and occasionally wander to western Europe as rare vagrants, but the tropical " Coccyzus " cuckoos are mainly sedentary.
