• Most comatulids originally have 10 arms, each ray being subdivided once.
• Comatulids live on the seabed and on reefs in tropical and temperate waters.
• During the development of comatulid crinoids ( feather stars ), the stalk is lost apart from its topmost segment which remains attached to the calyx ( central disc ).
