- The capital of Tajik ASSR was in Dyushambe ( today's Dushanbe ).
- In 1920, the last Emir of Bukhara briefly took refuge in Dyushambe after being overthrown by the Bolshevik revolution.
- In 1931, the city formerly known as " Dyushambe ", was renamed " Stalinabad " ( after Joseph Stalin ), but in 1961, as part of Nikita Khrushchev's de-Stalinization initiative, the city was renamed " Dushanbe ".
- In October 1929, under the initiative of Shirinsho Shotemur, the Tajik ASSR was transformed into a full-fledged Soviet Socialist Republic and became Tajik SSR, which additionally absorbed the Khujand region ( today's Sughd Province in northern Tajikistan ) from Uzbek SSR . The capital Dyushambe was renamed Stalinabad in honor of Joseph Stalin.
