  • "Gynoid " is also used in American English medical terminology as a shortening of the term " gynecoid " ( gynaecoid in British English ).
  • The female pelvis, or "'gynecoid pelvis "', has evolved to its maximum width for childbirth  a wider pelvis would make women unable to walk.
  • Even though this condition is classified as a congenital abnormality, it is not a medical disease or abnormality of the pelvis ( as the pelvis is a true gynecoid shape, only larger ).
  • Early medical authors such as Thomas Lathrop Stedman of Stedman's Medical Dictionary discuss its meaning and its definition in their various medical writings as having a pelvic oblique diameter of 24 cm or greater for a gynecoid type pelvis.
