  • The renal ( kidney ) surface is directed medialward and downward.
  • The " orbital process " is a thick, strong plate, projecting backward and medialward from the orbital margin.

  • This process is at first directed lateralward, its two surfaces looking upward and downward; it then appears as if twisted inward upon itself, and runs forward, its surfaces now looking medialward and lateralward.
  • The other limb extends downward and medialward, to be attached to the border of the plantar aponeurosis, and passes over the tendons of the extensor hallucis longus and tibialis anterior and also the vessels and nerves.
  • This is especially the case in standing upon one leg, when the tendency of the superincumbent weight is to throw the leg medialward; the fibularis longus overcomes this tendency by drawing on the lateral side of the leg.
  • The lesser tuberosity or lesser tubercle ( " tuberculum minus "; lesser tuberosity ), although smaller, is more prominent than the greater : it is situated in front, and is directed medialward and forward.
