• :It's a Nematomorpha, otherwise known as a Gordian Worm.
• At its origin, the " Nematoidea " erroneously included Nematodes, Nematomorpha and Nemathelminthes by Gegenbaur ( 1859 ).
• A 2011 summary of millipede family diversity by William A . Shear placed the order Siphoniulida within the larger group Nematomorpha.
• Their closest relatives are thought to be the Panarthropoda, Nematoda and Nematomorpha; they are thus placed in the group Ecdysozoa.
• The Ecdysozoa include the following phyla : Arthropoda, Onychophora, Tardigrada, Kinorhyncha, Priapulida, Loricifera, Nematoda, Loricifera, and Nematomorpha.
• Adult worms, as in some other Nematomorpha genera, may squirm in a tangled ball resembling a Gordian Knot; horsehair worms are also referred to as gordian worms.
• A study published in 2011 strongly suggests that " P . abnormis " is actually a specimen of " P . flavoguttata " which demonstrates abnormal morphology due to infection by a horsehair worm ( " Nematomorpha " ).
• The Ecdysozoa concept divides the taxon into two, the Panarthropoda into which the velvet worms are placed, and the sister group Cycloneuralia, containing the threadworms ( Nematoda ), horsehair worms ( Nematomorpha ) and three rather obscure groups : the mud dragons ( Kinorhyncha ); penis worms ( Priapulida ); and brush-heads ( Loricifera ).
• Many other phyla are found there : Porifera ( sponges ) and Priapulida ( burrowing  worms which were ambush predators ), Brachiopoda ( these had bivalve-like shells, but fed by means of a lophophore, a fan-like filter which occupied about of half of the internal space ), Chaetognatha ( arrow worms ), Cnidaria, Ctenophora ( comb jellies ), Echinodermata, Hyolitha ( Lophophorata with small conical shells ), Nematomorpha, Phoronida ( horseshoe worms ), and Protista.
