• Reactive arthritis is characterized by nongonococcal urethritis, conjunctivitis, and arthritis.
• Disorders caused by " C . trachomatis " include nongonococcal urethritis, cervicitis, salpingitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, and pneumonia.
• For treatment purposes, doctors usually classify infectious urethritis in two categories : gonococcal urethritis, caused by gonorrhea, and nongonococcal urethritis ( NGU ).
• For patients with nongonococcal urethritis caused by Ureaplasma urealyticum when tetracycline is contraindicated or not tolerated : 500 mg of erythromycin by mouth four times a day or two 333 mg tablets orally every 8 hours for at least seven days . 5
• Due to the different mechanism by which Gram-negative bacteria produce their cell walls and the various factors related to entering the outer membrane of Gram-negative organisms, vancomycin is not active against them ( except some nongonococcal species of " Neisseria " ).
