• Conservative management is usually adequate for nonsuppurative lymphadenitis.
• Rheumatic fever is a nonsuppurative sequela of a primary infection of group A " Streptococcus " bacteria.
• Affected lymph nodes are painless or minimally painful, nonfluctuant, and nonsuppurative; erythema of the neighboring skin may occur.
• If given subcutaneously, it may induce local infection and spread to the regional lymph nodes, causing either suppurative and nonsuppurative lymphadenitis.
• The usual pathological findings in such cases are multifocal spinal cord white matter oedema and necrosis, glial nodules and mild to moderate nonsuppurative encephalomyelitis.
