- When I LIVED IN BASILDON DURING THE 1950s I was working for fords in dagenham my old army mate was a john web who had represented england in the mexico olypic games he was one of englands long distance walkers we were both stationed in homng kong for around a year there was a pub that was well nown in the area for not letting in people not wearing ties the following evening my self and four others visited the pub wearing ties jackets and no shirts we were all allowed in and the story with a picture of us was in the national press the next day divorce ment i had to move away from basildon but i do at times miss the old place i am now in norfolk i think for my sins its the place where the local tory counciller held a vote on a new bus station 81 % voted to leave it where it is but the local paper reads it going where he wanted it I have asked the tory twit why bother holding a vote but the prat is still not going to answer me trust a tory to go against what the people want
