• "O . puertoblancoensis " was found in the Botonian / Toyonian " Olenellus "-zone of the Caborca Region, Mexico ( Buelna Formation, Cerro Rajon)
• "Olenellus serratus " is one of about twenty species of which the non-calcified parts are known, due to so-called segment, and these are shaped like the antennas.
• "O . parvifrontatus " has been collected in the " Olenellus "-zone of the Yukon Territory, Canada ( Unit 6 of the Upper Illtyd Formation, Wernecke Mountains ).

• "M . cylindricus " was collected in the Upper " Olenellus "-zone of California ( Eagle Mountain Shale, Carrara Formation, Grapeville Mountains, White / Inyo Mountains, South end of the Marble Mountains, and in San Bernardino County ).
• Thus, for example in the local North American subdivision, a paleontologist finding fragments of the trilobite " Olenellus " would identify the beds as being from the Waucoban Stage whereas fragments of a later trilobite such as " Elrathia " would identify the stage as Albertan.
• "O . roddyi " occurs in the " Olenellus "-zone of Pennsylvania ( 2 miles North of York, Fruitville; 3 miles North of Lancaster; Getz Quarry; 1 mile North of Rohrerstown; ?mile South of East Petersburg; all in the Kinzers Shale ).
• ""'Lochmanolenellus " "'is an extinct genus of Botomian stage ( " Olenellus "-zone ), 522 513 million years ago, in the South-West of the former continent of Laurentia, in what are today Mexico, and the South-Western United States.
• "O . crassimarginatus " has been collected in the middle Upper " Olenellus "-zone of Vermont ( Parkers Quarry, Parker Slate, Georgia ); and ?mile South of East Petersburg; 2 miles North of York and Fruitville, 3 miles North of Lancaster ( all in the Kinzers Shale ).
• The "'Bristoliinae "'is an extinct subfamily of Botomian and Toyonian stage ( " Olenellus "-zone ), 522-513 million years ago, in the former continent of Laurentia, including what are today Mexico, the Appalachian Mountains and the South-Western United States, and Canada ( North-West Territories ).
• "O . nevadensis " has been collected in the Upper " Olenellus "-zone, " Bristolia "-zonule of California ( Carrara Formation, Funeral Mountains and Grapevine Mountains ); and from the Latham Shale  treated as the " Bristolia "-zonule  at the South end of the Marble Mountains, near Chambless in the Mohave Desert portion of San Bernardino County.
• The formation dates to the Stage 3 of the yet-to-be-ratified Cambrian Series 2; the lower portion base of the formation and the youngest lagerstatte beds date to the " Nevadella " trilobite zone ( = Laurentian Montezuman stage ), with higher beds dating to the " Olenellus " trilobite zone ( = Laurentian Dyeran stage ), making the formation the same age as the Sirius Passet and just younger than the Chengjiang.
