• The course ran until optempo to Afghanistan and Iraq depleted the units on post, because every brigade was deployed; however by this time every battalion, brigade, and the division had their own dedicated small arms master gunners.

• The American Forces Press Service in August 1999 issued a statement reminding service members that " optempo " means operational tempo, the pace of an operation; " perstempo " means personnel tempo, or how long an individual is away from home base; " worktempo " is the pace of work at home base; and " deptempo " is deployment tempo, the number of days that a unit needs for a mission or training.
