" Triatoma " species and other members of the subfamily Triatominae, such as " Rhodnius " species, " Panstrongylus megistus ", and " Paratriatoma hirsuta ", are known as kissing bugs, because they tend to bite sleeping humans in the soft tissue around the lips and eyes.
