• Bats, particularly " Phyllostomus hastatus ", play an important role in dispersal of the species as they eat the aril and have to remove the nut from the capsule in order to do so.
• Its nocturnal flowers are pollinated by phyllostomid bats, mainly the small Glossophaginae " Glossophaga soricina " and " Anoura caudifer " and the Phyllostominae " Phyllostomus discolor ", which visit the flowers singly or in pairs
