- The region is rich in birdlife such as the Lake Lufira weaver ( " Ploceus ruweti " ) which is endemic to the area.
- The "'baya weaver "'( " Ploceus philippinus " ) is a weaverbird found across the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia.
- The "'black-necked weaver "'( " Ploceus nigricollis " ) is a resident breeding bird species in much of tropical Africa from Senegal and northern Angola, South Sudan and Tanzania.
- He has a handful of avian subspecies named after him, including " Anthus leucophrys bohndorffi " ( Congo plain-backed pipit ) and " Ploceus cucullatus bohndorffi " ( a village weaver subspecies ).
- The "'baglafecht weaver "'( " Ploceus baglafecht " ), also known as Reichenow's weaver is a species of weaver bird from the family Ploceidae which is found in eastern and central Africa.
- The weaver species reported are : 12 species of weavers of Ploceidae family are found in Benin, out of the overall 111 of the genus " Ploceus " ( true weavers ) identified; they are larger than a sparrow, males are more colourful than female species.
- Some of the endemic animals are named after the mountains in which the nature reserve is set, and these include the Usambara weaver ( " Ploceus nicolli " ), Usambara alkalat, Usambara hyliota ( " Hyliota usambara " ) and the Usambara eagle-owl ( " Bubo vosseleri " ).
- Many species of plants and animals ( especially from Madagascar and the Mascarenes ) were named after Bojer, including " Gongylomorphus bojerii " ( Bojer's skink ), " Dionycha bojerii, Ploceus bojeri " ( golden palm weaver ), " Uapaca bojeri, Streptocarpus bojeri, Epilobium bojeri ", and many more.
- Species of interest include the IUCN vulnerable Bannerman's weaver ( " Ploceus bannermani " ) and the near threatened Crossley's ground-thrush ( " Zoothera crossleyi " ) . 158 bird species were recorded on the Mambilla Plateau between 13 November 22 December 2003 by Tony Disley, many of them were within Ngel Nyaki Forest Reserve.
- The insectivorous weaver bird " Ploceus bicolor " can also learn to associate four feeding rooms with four feeding times, and it maintains the correct spatio-temporal pattern even when one of the rooms is blocked on test days ( the bird then waits for the next feeding time and visits the appropriate room for that time ); however, room blocking disrupts the spatio-temporal pattern in the granivorous weaver bird " Euplectes hordaceus ", which suggests that time-place learning may be stronger in species for which food in nature is more likely to vary spatio-temporally ( as is the case for insects, as opposed to grain ).
