• Possibly, the " E . coli " complex I has two energy coupling sites ( one Na + independent and the other Na + dependent ), as observed for the " Rhodothermus marinus " complex I, whereas the coupling mechanism of the " P . denitrificans " enzyme is completely Na + independent.
