  • Two additional pits occurred on the splenial.
  • The mandible has splenial and angular elements.
  • They possessed a rhynchokinetic skull with relatively unfused cranial bones, a weakly fused pygostyle and a splenial.
  • Typhlops, however, is more primitive in retaining a splenial in a peculiar position sharing with the dentary the symphysis.
  • The holotype is the anterior portion of the left mandible, from the symphysis to the splenial bone and containing portions of the coronoid.
  • One of the experiments involving VP attempted to investigate systematically the types of visual information that could be transferred via VP's spared splenial fibers.
  • The lower jaw of reptiles has only a single coronoid and splenial, but retains all the other primitive bones except the prearticular and the periosteum.
  • It is bordered below by a number of splenial bones, while the angle of the jaw is formed by a lower angular bone and a suprangular bone just above it.
  • The spared rostral fibers constituted approximately 1.8 % of the total cross-sectional area of the corpus callosum and the spared splenial fibers constituted approximately 1 % of the area.
  • The inner alveolar border, usually described as arising from a separate ossific center ( " splenial center " ), is formed in the human mandible by an ingrowth from the main mass of the bone.
  • The holotype specimen, about six centimetres long, is composed of an associated uncompressed upper and lower jaw fragment, containing a nearly complete right maxilla with teeth, a partial right dentary with teeth and an attached partial splenial.
  • In comparison to " A . grangeri ", " " Crocodylus " affinis " from the Bridger Formation in Wyoming has a similarly shaped splenial bone in the lower jaw and frontal bone in the skull.
  • Except for some patches of small teeth on their palates and on the splenial bone on the inner side of their lower jaws, their mouths have lost all dentition and have been replaced with a horny sheath that resembles a beak.
  • "Regnosaurus " is known only from the holotype "'BMNH 2422 "', a right mandibular ( lower jaw ) fragment, consisting of a third of the dentary and a part of the splenial.
  • Examination of the specimen showed it to have a number of unusual features, including the large number of splenial teeth observed by Taylor, but most unusually, closed choanae, which showed it could not fill any lungs it might have.
  • In the 1998 description a part of the splenial was mistaken for a supradentarium and the angular was misidentified as the surangular because in the fossil it had been displaced upwards, creating the false impression an external mandibular fenestra, an opening in the outer side of the jaw, would be present.
  • Preserved parts include : the majority of the skull; the splenial and angular of the lower jaw, a natural mold of the surangular, two cervical vertebrae, cervical ribs, seven dorsals, ribs, gastralia, three sacrals, ten caudals, a chevron, a piece of the scapula, a claw of the hand, a partial thighbone, the upper part of a shinbone, a partial fibula, a fifth metatarsal and the first phalanx of the third toe.
