• Yewen was born in Croydon, Surrey, England and died in Newport, New South Wales.
• "' Alfred Gregory Yewen "'( 16 May 1867  11 June 1923 ) was an Australian agricultural writer, journalist and socialist.
• He published also : " Bogdan Chmelnitzki, " in Russian, a translation of Hanover's " Yewen Me?ulah " ( St . Petersburg, 1878; Leipsic, 1883 ); a Russian edition of Mapu's " Ahavat ?iyyon, " without any mention of Mapu as the author ).
• Kayserling translated into German from a French version, which had been corrected by Lelewel, J . J . Benjamin's " Yewen Mezulah " ( Hanover, 1863 ), an account of the Polish-Cossack war and of the sufferings of the Jews in Poland during the period 1648-53; also F . D . Mocatta's " The Jews of Spain and Portugal and the Inquisition " ( ib . 1878 ).
• The Society charged the proprietor, John King, with a nuisance, while noting that it was " indebted to corporal Denny, of No . 17, Queen Square, Westminster, and to James Yewen, of No . 6, Horseferry Road, Westminster . . . for obtaining a sufficient number of witnesses, residing on the spot, to prove the case as a nuisance . " King was convicted, and, according to " The Cottager's monthly visitor ", " the prosecution completely suppressed that notorious sink of cruelty and vice ".
