- Claverhouse, better known to his enemies as'Bluidy Clavers', had recently been appointed captain, with a mission to disperse conventicles in south west Scotland.
- Mackenzie earned the nickname " Bluidy, " or " Bloody, " for torturing and prosecuting Scots who opposed the English belief that the king was the head of the Anglican Church.
- The kirkyard is reputedly haunted by the restless spirit of the infamous'Bluidy'Sir George Mackenzie, a former Lord Advocate, which is said to cause bruising and minor cuts and grazes on those who come into contact with it.
- In response to these shows of political sedition, the John Graham, Laird of Claverhouse was commissioned to carry out the orders of the Privy Council and was responsible for various summary executions which earned him the name " Bluidy Clavers " by the Covenanters.

- There are a number of flags and banners of the regiment on display in the museum, such as the " Bluidy Banner " which was carried by Covenanting forces at the Battle of Bothwell Bridge in 1679 . The museum also contains over 1, 000 medals and awards earned by soldiers and officers from the Cameronians ( Scottish Rifles ), including seven Victoria Crosses.
