  • Despite the similar British common names, they are not so closely related to the " Cepphus " guillemots, which form the tribe Cepphini.
  • They have distinctly white bellies, thicker and longer bills than " Cepphus ", and form very dense colonies on cliffs during the reproductive season.
  • It closely resembles the other members of the genus " Cepphus ", particularly the black guillemot, which is slightly smaller and lacks dark wing lines.
